What happened
In 2023, Homer Glen residents were asked whether License Plate Readers (LPRs) — known as Flock cameras — were necessary in our village. The residents spoke clearly.

Homer Glen residents vote on whether Flock cameras are necessary. 60% say NO in a turnout of 5,409 voters. The Village Board accepts the result.
December 3, 2025
Despite the 2023 vote, the Village Board's Public Service & Safety meeting reopens the question of Flock cameras.
December 10, 2025
The Village Board approves Legislative Action Item #7 — a Flock Safety proposal for twelve license plate cameras. Cameras planned for 159th Street, Bell Road, and 143rd Street.
April 9, 2026
After public pressure, the board adopts a 7-day data storage limit (down from the 30-90 days standard in most communities) and restricts data sharing to in-state agencies only. A partial concession — but the cameras themselves were not removed, and the underlying violation of the 2023 referendum stands.
